Actors channel Anne Frank and MLK to inspire youth through paired monologues

The Anne Frank Center USA and The Hear Foundation hosted a “Voices for Change” program on November 14 at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center. The event featured actors Amelia Dudley and Marcel Daly performing as Anne Frank and Martin Luther King Jr., bringing their writings and experiences to life through powerful monologues about persecution, resilience, and hope. Earlier that day, the pair performed for students at Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, prompting deep questions about community and critical thinking.
A panel discussion followed the evening performance, with panelists emphasizing the role of art in helping young people see themselves, engage with history, and make meaningful connections to their own lives. Speakers also underscored the importance of showing up for one another and recognizing that communities are more connected than they may appear. Audience members praised the program for its impact and its commitment to empowering youth to carry these lessons forward.
