The Hear Foundation, a new and growing organization, is the first and only nonprofit in Pittsburgh dedicated exclusively to collaborating with community leaders, Pittsburgh Police, residents and the City to create a safe, thriving community for all. The Hear Foundation’s mission is to convene, fund, and implement initiatives that build police and resident relationships and strengthen Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall success of The Hear Foundation, while reporting to the board of directors. They are responsible for developing and executing all programs and services to deliver mission impact. The Executive Director ensures active community engagement in developing and implementing the Foundation’s programming, grantmaking and convening strategies. The Executive Director hires, builds and develops the staff and nurtures a healthy, vibrant organizational culture.
Mission-Based Qualifications
- Works with diverse audiences including law enforcement, grassroot community groups, government and corporate entities to deliver on the mission and identify opportunities for the Foundation to participate, invest, or lead activities and initiatives to create safety and build relationships between police and community.
- Develops meaningful, authentic and credible working relationships locally and nationally with community leaders and law enforcement.
- Demonstrated ability and expertise in convening and community engagement, coalition-building, including the ability to motivate, negotiate and persuade stakeholders into a course of action.
- Collaborates with staff, board of directors, police and other local and national partners to communicate the Foundation’s mission and reputation across the communities served.
- Develops strong community partnerships that allow for monitoring of developments in the community that may affect the Foundation’s mission and strategic initiatives.
Nonprofit Leadership Qualifications
- Partners with the co-founders, staff and board of directors to develop and implement the strategic plan, policies, and programs that further the mission and ensures that the organization has the resources necessary to meet the needs of the communities served.
- Collaborates with staff and board of directors to ensure the mission of The Hear Foundation remains relevant to and focused on the needs of the communities served.
- In partnership with staff and board of directors, establishes operational objectives that support the strategic plan and ensures the organization is meeting its stated goals.
- Leads staff and board of directors for the overall planning and execution of all fundraising campaigns: capital; planned-giving; and major gifts.
- Develops broad-based private, public, and national support to allow the organization to become self-sufficient.
- Demonstrated knowledge of trends and issues in the funding, non-profit and broader community.
- Collaborates with staff on all finance and budget procedures/policies to ensure the fiscal integrity of the organization and manage a budget of $1M+.
- The ability to hire and develop an effective team and create a positive organizational culture.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, analyze, and solve complex problems, and exercise sound judgment, maturity, and a positive attitude in a high-volume environment.
- Strong communications and people skills and an ability to work cooperatively with the funding community, grantees, and other community stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in senior management, preferably in a foundation or non-profit environment involving community programming, grantmaking and development.
Anticipated Salary Range: $130,000 – $160,000
FLSA Status: Full-time/exempt
