Workforce Development

In Pittsburgh’s underserved communities, young people often do not see a path forward to a successful future.

The Hear Foundation is committed to the development of career and workforce programs that provide mentorship, job training, and professional opportunities to local youth.

Similarly, it is critical that public safety professionals are representative of their communities.  Today, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is significantly less diverse than Pittsburgh as a whole. The Hear Foundation can create an early familiarity with public safety career options and build employment pathways through internships and training for minority youth and young adults to enter the field of public safety.

“While much focus has been on re-entry – bringing formerly incarcerated individuals back into the workforce – we will also focus on maximizing talent and resources to ensure our young people aren’t going on to prison. We will do that through workforce development, and partnerships with local nonprofits that expose young people to different career paths.”
